About Tanna
Welcome! My name is Tanna Kimmerling. I am an innovative and empathetic educator with over a decade of teaching experience across elementary, middle, and high school levels in a variety of school settings. With a strong foundation in English Language Arts and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I specialize in designing inclusive, engaging, and tech-integrated learning experiences that support the academic and social-emotional development of all students.

Most recently, I served as Head Teacher and Dean for lower division students at AEON Learning Services (formerly Avenues: Online, a campus of Avenues: The World School). In this role, I had the pleasure of working with students from around the globe in online literacy, math, and STEAM centered project-based learning classes.

Before transitioning to online teaching, I served as a founding faculty member at Avenues Studio Hamptons, where I gained valuable insight into a unique and evolving educational model. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of the homeschool environment and, more importantly, the critical distinction between the roles of parent and teacher. While working closely with families in our small studio community, I learned how to support students academically while preserving the parent-child relationship—ensuring that learning remained rigorous, inquiry-driven, and joyful, without blurring emotional or familial boundaries. This perspective continues to shape my approach today, allowing me to partner meaningfully with families and help students thrive in nontraditional settings.

In addition to these pivotal roles, I got my start in education as a high school and middle school ELA and Journalism Teacher in public schools in NYC and Nebraska. These positions are dear to my heart for all of the wonderful students and colleagues I met along the way -- as well as giving me the chance to play with the written word day in and day out as I helped teens hone their writing skills.

While each of these experiences has been meaningful and shaped who I am as an educator, I am very excited to continue teaching with the flexibility that typical brick and mortar schools cannot provide.

I am a first time mom to a curious toddler and live in Los Angeles, CA with my husband, son, and two cats. When I’m not teaching, I’m reading, cooking elaborate meals, studying Italian, and enjoying time with family.
